Labour market policies for seniors
14 April 2010
To reach the Lisbon objective of a 50% employment rate for workers older than 55, in 2007 Flanders developed labour market policies for seniors. This report from the Steunpunt WSE evaluates the performance of these policies and shows the aspects to improve. Between 2001 and 2009, the employment rate for the 55-64 year old workers has increased from 25.3% to 35% in Flanders. The demographic challenge will require those type of improvements all over the country, however.

This book provides new ideas to adjust the organisation of the Belgian labour market to a new era. It calls for broad and deep reforms for the long term, beyond the convulsive short-term reflex of acquired rights.
