| Details | The Itinera Institute is pleased to invite you to a discussion with its new Chief Economist, prof. dr. Marieke Huysentruyt Philanthropy: what’s in it for Belgium? Philanthropy is a booming but controversial global activity with wide-spread policy implications, both nationally and internationally. Where does Belgium stand on the global philanthropy scale? Is philanthropy really philanthropy, or just business with another name? What are the risks and rewards of philanthropy? Can philanthropy offer an alternative model to state redistribution and foreign aid? Does the philanthropy boom offer valuable lessons in business creativity and innovation? This lecture gives an introduction to the global philanthropy phenomenon. It offers perspectives on the business models and financial innovations developed by leading philanthropists. It situates Belgium in the global trend and draws lessons in creativity and innovation for businessmen, policy makers, governments and NGOs alike. Marieke Huysentruyt is Chief Economist of the Itinera Institute and Fellow at the London School of Economics. Learn more about Marieke here.
